January 2024 Newsletter

This last day of 2023 I find myself reflecting on the year past.  Scrapbook retreats in January, February, March, June, and September. Stampin’ Retreat in September. Easter in Bonaire, GA with my youngest daughter; Mother’s Day in San Diego with 2 of my daughters; Girls Trip to Carlsbad  in July (with time to visit my daughter in San Diego); 2 weeks in Colorado in August (time with my oldest daughter); September trip to celebrate my daughter’s birthday in San Diego; day trip to Albuquerque to experience the eclipse in October; 3 week trip and cruise to Europe end of October-early November; to Christmas here at home with all three of my daughters.  I look through all of my photos and realize just how very blessed I am. I hope you find yourself reflecting on your year and taking hold of all the positive memories and thanking God for your blessings.  Like last year I will start my year with 21 Days of Prayer, Reflection, and Fasting. It gave me so much peace doing it last year and it helped ground me.  If anyone is interested in joining me, it starts on January 8th.

Tonight I will bring in the new year the way I have probably for the last 45 years of my life.  I’ll be wearing white (white symbolizes starting the year with a “clean slate”); I will do the 10 second countdown standing on my right foot )to enter the new year on “the Right Foot”) and immediately enjoying 12 green grapes for prosperity in the 12 months of the new year.  A tradition I learned in Brasil as a young adult and continue until now.  Obviously I can’t forget to kiss the man I love at midnight.

I hope the no matter how you say good-bye to this year and how you bring in the new year, I hope that 2024 will be filled with good health and happiness.

THANK YOU for your continued support over the last 5 years.  I hope you will continue to enjoy creating cards with me and sharing your cards with loved ones.  If you haven’t been able to join me for a workshop, maybe this is the year to give it a shot.

May God bless. You and your family in 2024!

Birthday Purse Gift Card holder

First know that I absolutely did NOT create this idea myself.  I found it on the internet like most of you probably found me. I borrowed the images from Beccy's Place in my directions. Even with the template I struggled because I attempted first to use different dimensions based on the cardstock size that I was using.  ( I was trying to maximize the cardstock that I use which is 8 1/2" x 11" so I started with 4 1/4" x 11" as opposed to 4 1/2" x 12") and I just kept making mistakes.I finally decided to only change the length to be able to use my 11" cardstock so my flap size is smaller but the width is still 4 1/2".  Beccy, I hope you do not mind my borrowing some of your images.

Also, note that I used different Designer Paper for this one.  you can. use whatever DSP you have and coordinating cardstock.  You can even use the other side of y our DSP" to place on the inside front flap of your purse. I also attempted to use a hole punch so that my bow could be tied and untied but it was hard because the punch only goes so far in.  I had to bend my cardstock to make it reach so I opted to give my class attendees some velcro tabs to open and shut and then add a bow to make it look cuter.  I will be trying this with Christmas paper to give my children gift cards

BIRTHDAY PURSE GIFT CARD HOLDER

Cased Beccy’s Place

 HOW TO CREATE AND ASSEMBLE:

1. Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 11" x 41/2".  (If you would like the flap of your purse to be a little bit larger, use a piece of cardstock that is 12” x 4 1/2”.).
Lay it horizontally on your scoreboard and score at 31/2", 41/4", 43/4", 51/4", 6", and 91/2".  See diagram below (A)

(A)

2.  Fold along the score lines in the following way: mountain fold, valley fold, mountain, valley, mountain, mountain. See photo below (B)

(B)

3.  Using a pencil and ruler, on the short sides of your cardstock, place a mark at 1/2" in from each side.  Now, measuring across from the top, left-hand corner, mark your card at 2 3/4”. Then measuring across from the bottom, left-hand corner, mark you card at 2 3/4”. Refer to image below (C)

(C)

4.  Lightly draw a line to connect the 2 3/4” mark to the 1/2” then cut.  Refer to image below. (D)

(D)

5.  Measure and mark a line on each side from the 1/2" marks on the opposite end to the 9” score line.

6.  Measure and mark both edges of the card  2 3/4" from the second last score line.  Draw a line from that mark to the top horizontal line you made in step 5.  See the image  below. (E)

 (E)

7.  Cut along both lines.  Your card should look like the image below. (F)

(F)

8. Select your Designer paper and cut them to size using your card base as a template..

9.  Run your Cardstock through the die cut machine with the decorative die for the flap.  I recommend running it through with the corresponding piece of DSP at the same time to ensure they will coordinate.

10. If you want to add a handle to your purse adhere them on the inside the flap then you will be able to cover the loose ends with the inside piece of cardstock.

11. Take your pieces of DSP and trace them on the large piece of white cardstock.

12. Stamp the inside sentiment on one piece, ink the edges, of both pieces (optional), and adhere the pieces to the inside of the purse.

13. (Optional) Ink all the edges of the DSP and the card, including the folds, then, adhere the DSP to your card.

14. To form the little pocket for your gift card, simply add a little glue or double-sided tape to the middle fold..  Only add your adhesive on the outside edges.  Make sure your adhesive is strong enough to hold the pocket closed...Pinch the sides closed until the glue dries.

15. On small scrap of white cardstock, stamp sentiment and punch out with oval punch.  (Optional: ink before adhering to the purse flap with mini Dimensionals.

16. Adhere the velcro tabs for the closure of your purse.

18. Embellish with gems and bow, and you’re ready to go!

Thank You For Everything

This card was quick and easy.  I wanted to maximize the use of my Designer Series Paper so that I could make multiples of this same card. I cut each 6" x 6" piece in half and then cut each piece at the 4" leaving me with a 3 x 4" and a 3" x 2" piece. I brought in some of my retired Mint Macaron cardstock because it looked beautiful with this paper. The DS"P has been retired however, there may still be some of this on our Clearance Rack.

 THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING

 HOW TO CREATE & ASSEMBLE:

  1. Adhere your 4” x 5 1/4” piece of cardstock to the front of your card base (8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored at 4 1/4”)
  2. Cut your piece of DSP to whatever size you like.  I opted to cut my DSP 3”x 4” and 3” x 2” but I left the paper intact incase you prefer to be different. (Other possibilities: (2) 3” x  3”; or 3” x 1” and 3” x 5”)
  3. Mat your pieces of DSP on the cardstock leaving 1/4” around on all sides. (Again, I did not trim it to fit in case you opted to be different.)
  4. Arrange these on your card front however you would like.
  5. Die cut the small piece of petal pink cardstock with the stylish shape die.  (One end will not be cut but that’s okay.) Stamp the sentiment on the piece you just die cut.
  6. Before adhering the sentiment to your card front, die cut the additional shells and seaweed and create your design. Once you have it figured, adhere y our pieces down.
  7. I added a pearl inside the shell.
  8. Stamp your sentiment and maybe a little design on the inside of our card.
  9. (Optional) stamp a design on your envelope.
